• Firstly, and probably most importantly it pays!

  Consider this:
  

  A novel can take anything from 6 months to 2 -3 years (or more)to write. Then you need to find an agent (not an easy task) then the agent needs to find a publisher.

  Ignoring any up front payments, the publisher may offer 10% Net royalty payable twice yearly. On an average book retailing at 5.99, assuming the publisher probably sells it at half that to the book shops, and then gives you 10% of that, that still means you get less than 0.30 a copy sold. (Bearing in mind these are totally random figures – not based on anything remotely realistic.)

  Assuming you sell 4,000 books a year, then you make a huge £1200! (But don’t forget the agent has to take a cut of that.)

  A typical murder mystery game takes around 17 hours to write. You need no agent.

  Red-herring-games pays you a royalty of 30% on every game sold. (for ease let’s say £4.50)

  Assuming you sell 100 games a year then you get £450!

  But – let’s say you write 10 different games and they all sell 100 over the year then you get £4500!

  And added to that we don’t make you wait that long to get your money – we pay monthly, one month in arrears.
