Well, it certainly isn’t because we are a fraudulent company! Nor just because we liked the name, though it must be said, it is catchy...(groan). We selected the name for three reasons: - Firstly Red Herring is a term commonly associated with murder mysteries and our games have red herrings galore!
-
Secondly, the company was founded by 3 christians and we all quite fancied the idea of getting the Icthus or fish symbol involved.
- And finally, we are based in Grimsby, a town long associated with fishing, and one which still houses the largest UK fish market!
Ever wondered where the term Red Herring came from? Strangely it actually originated with fox hunting in 18th or 19th centuries in the UK. Back then, fish was preserved by smoking or salting. Smoked herring had a particularly strong odour and went a kind of reddish colour. In order to confuse the scent of the fox, hunt protesters (yes they were around even then) used to drag a smoked herring over the land to lead the hounds away from a foxes trail - the hounds followed the trail of the fish, and hence were distracted by a "Red Herring". |
