Uffington Castle, home to King Alfred and Queen Elswith, is experiencing a modest time of peace. The Danish Invaders have been quelled yet again, and the whole country is as rest, for now.
In celebration of this peace the Royal couple have decided to hold a banquet. Everyone is invited, even Prince Edward, who is yet a babe in arms.
However, when the night arrives King Alfred has been taken to bed with flu and is missing from the festivities. Rather than sit next to an empty throne Queen Elswith selects one of the guests to sit beside her, Wayland the Smith.
Just as he takes his seat however, the portcullis crashes down outside the room and a bell topped hat rolls back inside. The Court Jester is discovered dead, but was it merely a terrible accident, or is his death the result of foul play?
Everyone at the banquet is drawn into solving the mystery, but as the night unfolds another of the Queen’s loyal subjects drops dead in full view.
The question is: can the remaining guests uncover the murderer before anyone else dies?
The Cast:
Cantfail – The monk sent to solve the crime Dressed in his habit/robes and efficient in his own peculiar way, Cantfail has an unusual method of solving crimes – he involves everyone!
Court Jester - You could say he died laughing - but given that the portcullis has all but chopped him in half that would hardly be fair! The part of the Jester can be played by Cantfail with a quick change of dress between rounds one and two.
Queen Elswith – The Queen Regal and beautiful, with flowing robes and decorative headdress, Queen Elswith has turned many a head in the kingdom with her charm and grace.
Wayland the Smith – The Smith In his regular work-a-day blacksmith clothes, Wayland smells of horses and sweat and is never without his tools of the trade which are habitually slung through his belt.
Sir Render – Portly Knight Larger than life, Sir Render enjoys his meat and his mead and is always ready for a party, if not always ready for battle.
Sir Veillance – Knight Dynamic and powerful, Sir Veillance is strong, ready for any challenge and is the favoured knight of the Queen.
Victoria Sponge – Cook/Serving Wench. Used to waiting on tables as well as cooking, Victoria Sponge is rather plump, greasy and never afraid to call a spade a spade.
Maid Inchina – Maid in waiting. Loyal to the Queen, Maid Inchina is always by her side, dressed flatteringly in flowing dresses and with her sewing ever to hand.
Never run a large group mystery before? Then don't panic! Hosting a Large Group Murder Mystery is time consuming, but with ample preparation and a good cast it is really quite simple and great fun! In large group games it is impossible to give everyone a part, instead the mystery involves “cast members” who are fully in the know and act out the mystery, and the guests act as detectives trying to solve the murder. Large group games come in several different formats, clue based, cast based, multi-room, single room, or a mixture of them all. This particular game requires 7 (or 8) cast (who are fully in the know), use of 1 large room with stage area, and several prop clues. This mystery requires advance preparation, the more notice you have, and the more preparation and effort you put in to running the mystery, the better it will run for your guests.
Two murders occurs during the event. One witnessed, one unwitnessed.
Your guests play the role of detectives. You can have any number of detectives for this mystery, your only limit is the size of your room, and the time you have available. To find out more information about Written clue based semi-scripted games click here Clue based mystery games for large groups.
